The head of class, Severodvinsk took 17 years to
build and the sub was officially launched in June
2010. The Russian Navy reportedly plans to order
6 to 10 Yasen-class submarines through 2020.

Yasen class
nuclear submarines are designed to launch a variety of long-range cruise
missiles (up to 3,100 miles or 5,000 km), with conventional or nuclear
warheads, and effectively engage submarines, surface warships and land-based
targets.The submarine's armament includes 24 cruise missiles and eight
torpedo launchers, as well as mines and anti-ship missiles.
The second vessel of the Graney class, the Kazan, is being built at
Sevmash shipyard while the construction of the third submarine will
begin by the end of 2011.
The
Russian Navy plans to receive up to 10 Graney class subs by 2020.
After numerous delays due to Financing Problems the Severodvinsk (head
of class) is expected to enter service with the Russian Navy by the
end of 2011.
The Russian Navy announced that they intend to buy at least 10 of these
fourth-generation multirole attack nuclear-powered submarine to gradualy
replace both Oscar and Akula submarines.

The inner hull is made from high strength steel. Provision is made for
a releasable chamber for the whole crew. Arranged in the central portion
of the hull is a missile compartment with 8 universal silos.
