Four US Navy F-35Cs Lightning II Multirole Fighters Arrived in California for Permanent Basing

A new chapter in Navy history began today when four F-35Cs arrived at Naval Air Station Lemoore, California, joining the VFA-125 Rough Raiders and reestablishing them as a training squadron. Nearly 400 sailors, families and local civic leaders witnessed the arrival and the accompanying ceremony marking the occasion. NAS Lemoore is the first west coast naval installation to have F-35Cs permanently assigned and is the Navy’s only west coast Master Jet Base. By the end of 2017, the base will have 10 F-35Cs, building to more than 100 jets in the early 2020s.

Royal Navy warship HMS St Albans is escorting the Russian Admiral Kuznetsov carrier task group back through the Channel today. The Portsmouth-based Type 23 frigate is keeping watch on the Russian aircraft carrier, which is being accompanied by a cruiser and a salvage tug, as it passes close to UK territorial waters on its way home from operations in Syria.

The U.S. Navy awarded Raytheon Company $235 million for Standard Missile-6 all-up round production missiles and spares. Raytheon will begin delivery in 2018. The missiles will be deployed on Aegis cruisers and destroyers to support U.S. Navy fleet operations. The award funds the fourth year of full-rate production for the multi-mission missile, which recently accomplished significant testing milestones and achievements.

The Russian Navy is planning to order 20 more Project 12700 fiberglass mine sweepers in the imminent future, Navy spokesman Igor Dygalo said. "About 20 Project 12700 mine sweepers are planned to be built for Russia’s Navy in the imminent future," Dygalo said, without specifying the timeframe.

The first two hulls are currently under construction at Jiangnan Changxing naval shipyard new Shanghai. Type 055 is the next generation class of Guided-Missile Destroyer (DDG) for the People's Liberation Army Navy (PLAN or Chinese Navy).
