Turkey for the first time has successfully test-fired its indigenous anti-ship missile, ATMACA, from a locally made ship, according to the Turkish Presidency of Defense Industries (SSB). The SSB published footage of the test-firing Monday.

Turkey conducted a successful test-fire of the country’s first indigenously developed sea-launched cruise missile, the head of Turkey’s Defense Industries Presidency said on November 4.

Atmaca was launched from the TCG Kinaliada warship, the fourth Ada-class anti-submarine warfare corvette manufactured under the Turkish national warship program, said İsmail Demir.

"For the first time, we have fired an indigenous missile from an indigenous ship. Developed and produced by Roketsan, our first national maritime cruise missile ATMACA was successfully launched from TCG Kınalıada," the SSB said on Twitter.

Marked for its long-range, low-track and high-target hit sensitivity, ATMACA is ready for service on modern naval platforms. It is expected to lead to a new era in the field of surface-to-surface missiles.

The ATMACA is a modern guided missile that can be used in any weather, can be effective against fixed and moving targets thanks to its resistance to countermeasures, target update, re-attack, and task cancellation capabilities, and advanced routing system (3D routing).

Manufactured by missile producer Roketsan, Atmaca is expected to enter the Turkish military’s inventory in the second half of 2020.
