According to the Russian MoD on February 17, 2922, a diverse group of Caspian Flotilla's naval forces has left the Makhachkala base to participate in a planned command and staff exercise in the Caspian Sea.

Crews from around 20 warships of the flotilla, including the missile ship Dagestan, small missile ships Grad Sviyazhsk, Uglich, Velikiy Ustyug, Makhachkala, Astrakhan and Stupinets, small artillery ships, base sweepers, cutters, and support vessels, are taking part in the ship-based command and staff exercise.
The Buyan class, Russian designations Project 21630 Buyan and Project 21631 Buyan-M, are series of corvettes (small artillery and missile ships in Russian classification) developed by Zelenodolsk Design Bureau for the Russian Navy.
She can reach a top speed of 26 knots (48 km/h) with a maximum cruising range of 2,300 nmi (4,300 km) at 12 knots. She has a length of 75 m, a beam of 11 m and a displacement of 949 tons. The corvette has a crew of 52 sailors and an endurance of 10 days.
The corvette is armed with one 100 mm A-190-01 naval gun, two 30 mm AK-630-M2 CIWS (Close-In Weapon System), one Pantsir-M CIWS (Stavropol) air defense missile system, height UKSK VLS (Vertical Launching System) cells for Kalibr or Oniks anti-ship cruise missiles, eight Komar surface-to-air missiles, one DP-65 anti-saboteur grenade launcher, and two 14.5 mm KPV type anti-aircraft four-barrel machine guns.
