The Russian Navy received two nuclear-powered submarines to bolster the country’s seaborne nuclear deterrence forces and a large diesel-electric submarine in the fourth quarter of 2021, Russian Deputy Defense Minister Alexei Krivoruchko said.

Russian Navy has received three submarines in late 2021.
“Two new nuclear-powered submarines and a large diesel-electric sub were delivered to the Navy,” Krivoruchko reported to Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu during the single military output acceptance day.
These are the Project 885M nuclear-powered submarine Novosibirsk, the Project 955A nuclear-powered sub Knyaz Oleg and the Project 636.3 diesel-electric submarine Magadan, he specified.
The Russian Navy also received two new combat boats, a Monolit-BR coastal radar and missile system, four new and four repaired naval aviation aircraft, Krivoruchko said.
At a ceremony directed by the Russian supreme commander-in-chief on December 21, the naval flags were solemnly raised aboard the Project 955A nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarine Knyaz Oleg and the Project 885M nuclear-powered attack sub-Novosibirsk, he added.
“The fourth-generation nuclear-powered submarine Knyaz Oleg that has joined the seaborne nuclear deterrence forces has advanced missile systems that are capable of delivering missile strikes against enemy strategically vital military and industrial facilities,” the deputy defense minister said.
Unlike its predecessors, the multipurpose nuclear-powered submarine Novosibirsk carries versatile launchers that can fire Onyx anti-ship, Tsirkon hypersonic or Kalibr cruise missiles. It also features high stealth, improved maneuvering systems, and advanced communications and sonars.
Russian Yasen-M project 885M nuclear-powered submarine
Yasen-M Russian designation Project 885M, NATO reporting name Severodvinsk, is a new class of nuclear-powered cruise missile submarines designed by the Malakhit Marine Engineering Bureau and built by Sevmash for the Russian Navy.
The Yasen-M class is an improved version of the Yasen nuclear attack submarine using an advanced design that increases its ability to detect enemy vessels at speeds far higher than those of its predecessors. A new power supply and acoustic defense systems have been developed for the boat in order to reduce the noise signature and increase its stealth capability. The boat features optimized hull shape, upgraded electronic warfare (EW) and automation systems, two more vertical launching system silos, a pump-jet propulsion system allowing for silent operation and new torpedo tubes.
The Yasen-M is equipped with eight VLS Vertical Launching System able to fire anti-ship and cruise missiles, ten torpedo tubes (533 mm), and Igla-M surface-to-air missiles. The Oniks, also known as Yakhont is a Russian-made supersonic anti-ship cruise missile developed by NPO Mashinostroyeniya. The missile has an operational range of 600 km.
Russian Navy Project 955A nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarine
The Project 955A submarine is a member of the Borei-class submarines which is a series of nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarines being constructed by Sevmash for the Russian Navy including Project 955 Borei, Project 955A Borei-A, Project 955B (Borei-B), and Borei-K.
Project 955A (Borei-A) nuclear-powered missile-carrying submarines are designed to become the mainstay of Russia’s seaborne strategic nuclear forces. They carry 16 Bulava intercontinental ballistic missiles as their basic armament. Compared to the baseline Borei series, Borei-A subs feature better acoustic stealth, maneuvering and deep-sea running capabilities and an improved armament control system.
Russian navy Project 636.3 Kilo-Class diesel-electric attack submarine
The Project 636.3 Kilo-Class diesel-electric attack submarine was built for the Russian Navy. Admirality shipyard officially delivered the first Project 636.3 Kilo-class SSK, the Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, to the Pacific Fleet in November 2019.
The Project 636.3 Kilo-class is an improved variant of the original Project 877 Kilo-class design. The updated version is slightly longer in length — the sub’s submerged displacement is around 4,000 tons — and features improved engines, an improved combat system, as well as new noise reduction technology.
Project 636.3 Kilo-class SSKs have a crew of 52 and can conduct underwater patrols for up to 45 days. The subs have an operational range of up to 12,000 kilometers and are armed with heavyweight torpedoes, anti-ship and land attack cruise missiles, and can also carry mines.
