Algerian Navy signs deal with ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems for 2+2 Meko A200 Frigates: Details
 
On March 26 2012, Algeria’s ministry of defence ordered two Meko A200 frigates from ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems (TKMS). The German shipyard will supply two Meko frigates to Algeria including six helicopters. The contract includes the construction of a dockyard in Algeria for the local assembly of two more frigates.

The six helicopters will be AgustaWestland Super Lynx for anti-submarine missions. The deal also includes training of Algerian sailors which will be provided by the German navy.

The MEKO A-200 in Algerian configuration will be fitted with the following weapons:
» 8x Diehl Defence RBS15 Mk3 anti-ship missiles
» 16x Denel Umkhonto SAM (launched from VLS tubes)
» 1x 76-mm/62 Super Rapid gun by Oto Melara (main gun)
» 2x Rheinmetall remotely controlled MLG27 guns
