French Navy (Marine Nationale) Rafale M multi-role fighters conducted some Intelligence, Surveillance, Reconnaissance (ISR) flight above Libya from aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle on November 20th and 21st. The information comes from the French president's office as part of president Hollande's visit onboard the French Navy aircraft carrier today.

The Royal Netherlands Navy (Koninklijke Marine) announced that Walrus-class diesel electric submarine (SSK) Zr. Ms. Zeeleeuw (meaning Sealion) is operational again for the next ten years following a major maintenance and modernization period. Zeeleeuw, second submarine of the class of four, was the first to be modernized.

Russian Navy Naval Aviation Pilots Learn to Operate MiG-29K/KUB Multirole Fighter Jets
 
Russian naval aviation pilots are currently learning to operate advanced MiG-29K/KUB (NATO reporting name: Fulcrum-D) multipurpose fighter jets, Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said during a conference call on Wednesday. "The construction of a ground training facility continues in the city of Yeysk [in the Krasnodar Territory in southwest Russia] to teach flight personnel to operate them [MiG-29K/KUB fighter jets]"

French Navy Announced Aquitaine Frigate, First Ship of FREMM Class, is Now on Active Duty
 
The French Navy (Marine Nationale) just announced that the Aquitaine Frigate, first ship of the FREMM class of multi-mission frigates, has now entered "active duty" (admission au service actif in French). As we reported last week, Aquitaine is expected to join the Charles de Gaulle carrier strike group (CSG) in the coming days. This will be the first operational deployment for this new generation frigate.

Successful Factory Acceptance for US Navy Freedom class LCS' TRS-4D AESA Radar
 
USS Fort Worth (LCS 3) conducted dynamic interface operations on the Point Mugu Test Range Nov. 5-13 with the Navy's Vertical Takeoff Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (VTUAV) known as the MQ-8 Fire Scout. Although Fire Scouts have been used in the fleet onboard frigates, LCS is the first platform designed from the keel up to integrate and operate these unmanned helicopters.
Airbus Defense and Space, Inc. and its affiliate, Airbus Defence and Space GmbH completed successful factory acceptance testing of the TRS-4D naval radar scheduled to go aboard the U.S. Navy’s Freedom Variant Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) starting with LCS-17. Freedom Variant LCS prime contractor, Lockheed Martin, and US Navy representatives observed the testing. The TRS-4D is an inline upgrade on Lockheed Martin’s remaining ships, starting with LCS-17.

Harris Corporation has received a four-year, $113 million contract from the U.S. Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) to upgrade the Navy's primary long-range, three-dimensional defense radar. The contract includes an initial $39 million order and three one-year options. The contract was received in the first quarter of Harris' fiscal 2016.

The MQ-8C Fire Scout completed a three week operational assessment period Nov. 20 at Naval Base Ventura County at Point Mugu, California. The OA included 11 flights totaling 83.4 flight hours where Fire Scout was tested against maritime and surveyed land targets to assess system performance, endurance and reliability of the unmanned helicopter.
