Mobile coastal missile complexes 3K60 Bal and R300P Bastion trained in the Baltic Sea to destroy a group of adversary warships close to Kaliningrad coast, fleet spokesman Roman Martov said.

In the framework of the exercise which engaged a total of over 500 men the servicemen of the coastal missile formation of the Baltic naval base marched on combat hardware to the firing positions where they deployed Bal and Bastion complexes to fire at warships of the conditional adversary and defend the coast of Kaliningrad region. The role of adversary warships was performed by Baltic fleet corvettes of project 20380.

After the deployment of the complexes, they locked on targets and e-launched at them subsonic anti-ship Kh-35 missiles and supersonic P-800 Onix missiles.

The supersonic P-800 Onix missile has a cruising speed of 750 meters per second at high altitudes (up to 14000 meters) and 680 meters per second at low altitudes (10-20 meters). The fire distance depends on the flight trajectory. During a flight by the low-high-low altitude profile (launch-cruising section-end section - TASS) the maximum firing range comprises 300 kilometers while the low-low-low altitude profile has the maximum range of 120 kilometers.

The P-800 is armed with high-explosive fragmenting 200-kg penetrator warhead armed with a delay action detonator which explodes inside the attacked warship.

Targeting at the middle flight section is provided by inertial navigational system with a pulse radio altimeter and at the 40-kilometer long end section by active radar seeker. The jam-resistant seeker can select targets in a group of warships and choose a priority for attack. The end section flight proceeds at an altitude of 10-20 meters. The missile can maneuver to escape warship defense weapons at the end flight.

The subsonic Kh-35 (3M24) missile of the Bal complex has a cruising speed of 270 meters per second and a firing range of 120 kilometers. At present the Bal is armed with upgraded Kh-35U (3M24U) missiles with a range of up to 260 kilometers. The altitude of the cruising flight section is 10-15 meters and of the end section - 1.5 meters. Targeting at the cruising section is provided by inertial navigational system with a pulse radio altimeter and at the end section by active radar seeker. Kh-35U is also equipped with a satellite navigational system. The high-explosive fragmenting penetrator warhead weighs 145 kilograms.
