South Korea's Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA) has announced that the design of the ASR-II project passed the military's required operational capability (ROC) test last month. ASR-II is a new generation Auxiliary Submarine Rescue vessel intended to strengthen the existing Cheonghaejin Class ASR submarine rescue ship as the Republic of Korea (ROK) Navy has commissioned nine KSS-II class submarines (Type 214) as well as building the new class of large submarine, the KSS-III.

Boeing for the first time is showing what it believes is the unmanned aircraft system (UAS) best suited for refueling U.S. Navy jets operating from aircraft carriers. Through its MQ-25 competition, the Navy is seeking unmanned refueling capabilities that would extend the combat range of deployed Boeing F/A-18 Super Hornet, Boeing EA-18G Growler, and Lockheed Martin F-35C fighters. The MQ-25 will also have to seamlessly integrate with a carrier’s catapult and launch and recovery systems.

Our colleagues from East Pendulum are reporting that the Hudong-Zhonghua Shipyard of the Chinese naval group CSSC launched a Type 054A frigate for People's Liberation Army Navy (PLAN or Chinese Navy) on December 16 2017. This is the 15th frigate of this class (designated Jiangkai II-class by NATO) built in this shipyard, located near Shanghai in Eastern China, and the 29th overall in the series. The 28th Type 054A was launched less than 4 months ago, showing once again the fast pace of China's naval shipbuilding industry.
