Russian Navy Steregushchiy-class corvette Boiky simulates anti-ship missile strike with Uran SS-N-25

According to information published by the Russian press agency TASS on December 1, 2020, the Russian Navy Baltic Fleet’s Project 20380 Steregushchiy-class corvette Boiky has delivered a simulated missile strike with Uran SS-N-25 anti-ship missile in the Atlantic Ocean while accomplishing combat training missions in the fleet’s area of responsibility, the Russian Defense Ministry’s press office said.

“The Boiky corvette held an exercise in the northeastern part of the Atlantic Ocean to deliver a notional missile attack against a simulated enemy’s naval detachment with the use of the Uran SS-N-25 Switchblade anti-ship missile system,” the press office said.

During the exercise, the crew classified surface targets and then performed simulated missile launches against them with anti-ship cruise missiles.

Several days before, servicemen of the torpedo department practiced searching for, detecting and eliminating the simulated enemy’s submarine with the use of anti-submarine warfare (ASW) weapons and a Kamov Ka-27 (Helix) ASW helicopter.

The Boikiy Steregushchiy class, Russian designation Project 20380, is a class of corvettes being built for the Russian Navy and designed by the Almaz Central Marine Design Bureau. The corvettes has a steel hull and composite material superstructure, with a bulbous bow and nine watertight subdivisions. She has a combined bridge and command center, and space and weight provision for eight SS-N-25 missiles. Stealth technology was widely used during the construction of the ships, as well as 21 patents and 14 new computer programs.

The is armed with one100mm A-190 Arsenal or 130mm A-192 naval gun, one Kashtan CIWS-M (Close-In Weapon System), eight Kh-35 (SS-N-25) subsonic cruise anti-ship missile, two AK-630М CIWS (Close-In Weapon Systems), eight 330mm torpedo tubes for Paket-NK (Paket-NK/E for export) anti-torpedo/anti-submarine torpedoes and two 14.5mm MTPU pedestal machine guns. 

The Uran SS-N-25 'Switchblade' is an anti-ship cruise missile that was originally developed in 1983 by the Soviet Union. It has a two-stage, liquid-fueled propellant and weighs 480 kg, and can be launched from fighter jets, attack helicopters, bombers, and naval surface ships. The missile has a conventional warhead of 480 kg and has a maximum firing range of 300 km.
