Lockheed Martin to provide 3 MH-60R Seahawk for US Navy and 21 MH-60Rs for India


On March 14 2020, the U.S. Navy announced a $905 million contract to Lockheed Martin (Sikorsky) for 21 MH-60R Seahawk helicopters for the Indian Navy. Thanks to that deal, India becomes the latest country to add the MH-60R Seahawk maritime helicopter to its fleet.

The official US government contract notice published on March 14, 2020, is for the production and delivery of three MH-60R Seahawk maritime aircraft for the Navy and 21 MH-60Rs for the government of India. Work is expected to be complete by September 2024.

For the record, the Indian Navy MH-60R weapons package includes Kongsberg’s Naval Strike Missile in its helicopter launched variant (NSM-HL).

The MH-60R is equipped with a highly sophisticated combat systems designed to employ Hellfire air-to-surface missiles and the Mark 54 anti-submarine torpedo.

The helicopter is equipped for a range of missions, including anti-submarine warfare (ASW), anti-surface warfare (ASuW), search-and-rescue (SAR), naval gunfire support (NGFS), surveillance, communications relay, logistics support and personnel transfer, and vertical replenishment (VERTREP).
