RMK Marine participates in DIMDEX 2012 International Maritime & Defense Exhibition in Qatar
 
Having undertaken the biggest combat ship contract in the Turkish private sector history, RMK Marine will participate as the representative of the Turkish private shipbuilding industry in the 3rd DIMDEX Exhibition organized in Doha, the capital city of Qatar, to share the recent developments particularly in regards to upcoming naval ship projects with visitors.

This will be the first time that RMK Marine, the shipyard of Koç Group Companies, participates in the DIMDEX 2012 Exhibition, to be organized in Qatar’s capital city Doha on March 26 – 28 2012.

The DIMDEX 2012 Exhibition, which is being organized for the 3rd time this year, is an important platform in terms of uniting global industry leader firms and industrial representatives, bureaucrats and businessmen of Middle Eastern and African countries and generating a gradually increasing demand in the defense industry. In this Exhibition, worldwide manufacturers in the electronics, technology development and weapon systems fields will also come together, along with the leading firms of the defense industry. RMK Marine’s stand will be situated in the Turkish Section of Pavilion in the Exhibition under the coordination of the Turkish Undersecretariat for Defense Industry (SSM), along with other Turkish companies.

RMK Marine will be situated at Stand No.S-307 in DIMDEX Exhibition organized at the Qatar International Convention Center. The Company will introduce the Coast Guard Search and Rescue Vessel project, currently being built for the Turkish Coast Guard Command, as well as other ongoing naval projects such as Fast Attack Craft (42m in length) and Multi-role Coast Guard Vessel (66 m in length). RMK Marine, having recently won the biggest combat ship tender to be realized by private sector in Turkey, will exhibit its successes and experience, in both the construction or naval ships as well as in the integration of weapons and electronic systems.

Commenting on RMK Marine’s involvement in this prestigious DIMDEX Exhibition, RMK Marine’s General Manager Can Öztürk said; “We are pleased to be participating in the DIMDEX for the first time this year to represent our country. We will be honored to share defense industry capabilities of our country with all participants from international markets and to introduce the Turkish Coast Guard Search and Rescue Vessel Projects along with our other ongoing projects”.

The Success of Turkish Engineers

RMK Marine has realized a significant organizational structure in line with the long term defense industry objectives, strategy and mission of the Turkish Undersecretariat for Defense Industry. The project which has been underway since 2008, currently employs 28 managers, 124 engineers, 58 technicians, 28 operators, 53 office personnel and 329 workers. A total of 2 million man/hour labor has been completed in the project until today. 6,000 units of electric cables, a total of 150 km cable length as well as 30 kilometers of piping with various diameters have been installed in each a vessel. In addition, nationally developed combat management and electronic sensor – weapon systems have also been successfully integrated in the Project and obtained the full score in implemented tests.

Among the 4 vessels constructed successfully by Turkish engineers, vessels TCSG Dost, TCSG Güven and TCSG Umut were launched within the past year, and TCSG Yasam will also be launched in the upcoming days. The vessels will be delivered within 2012. These vessels with 88,6 m length, 12 m width and 1700 tons of displacement weight fall under “corvette class” vessel family in terms of dimensions and capacities. RMK Marine executes the platform integration of weapons and electronic systems for vessels within its shipyard.

In 2000 RMK Marine had also successfully built and delivered two naval logistics vessels to the Turkish Naval Forces, namely TCG Alb. Hakki Burak and TCG Yzb. Ihsan Tolunay with 2100 DWT capacity. RMK Marine is currently also tendering for Landing Platform Dock Project, which is in clarification phase nowadays, to be procured by SSM.

  • “Nazenin V”, built by RMK Marine was awarded a Judges’ Special Commendation for “The Best Sailing Yacht over 45 Meters” at the “2010 World Superyacht Awards”, which is considered to be the “Academy Award” of global super yacht industry.
  • The 45m super motor yacht “Karia” and the Oyster 100 sailing yacht “Sarafin”, built at RMK Marine, have both been chosen as finalists in World Superyacht Awards 2012. This highly competitive and prestigious award of the global super yacht industry will be delivered to their selected owners on the premiere night to be organized in May 2012 in Istanbul.
  • Caressa K was one of the five winners of the prestigious Superyacht Design Award by the ISS (International Superyacht Society) for Powerboats 32-43m category in 2006. Designed by Naval Architects, Vripack Yachting International b.v. this elegantly styled trawler yacht is intended for long distance cruising with all of the comforts of fine living for the discerning owner.
