At DSEI 2015, the International Defence & Security event in London, United Kingdom British company MSI-Defence Systems Ltd, one of the world leader in the supply of small/medium calibre Naval Gun Systems, was showing for the first time a full size model of its new SEAHAWK Ultra-Lite (UL). The SEAHAWK UL was first unveiled during Euronaval 2014.
Navy Recognition had the chance to tour the Belgian Navy Patrol Vessel Castor (P901) during DSEI 2015, the International Defence & Security event in London, United Kingdom.

At DSEI 2015, a series of futuristic concept images on what a new surface ship for the Royal Navy could look like in 2050 has been released by a group of leading British naval electronic systems companies, working alongside Defence Equipment & Support (DE&S – part of the MOD) and the Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (DSTL – part of the MOD).

At DSEI 2015, the International Defence & Security event in London, United Kingdom Saab was showcasing some of its latest underwater systems such as the Multi-Shot Mine Neutralisation System (MuMNS) and the Sea Wasp Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) for disarming underwater improvised explosive devices (IEDs).

American company STIDD Systems introduced some performance enhancements for its diver propulsion device (DPD) during DSEI 2015, the International Defence & Security event in London, United Kingdom. The RNAV2 is a precision navigation system design to fit in the DPD but it is diver portable too. The new TEC2 thruster delivers more power and speed to the DPD.

During DSEI 2015 which took place in London from 15-18 September, Lockheed Martin was showcasing a scale model of the SC-130J Sea Herc Maritime Patrol and Reconnaissance Aircraft (MPRA). Keith Muir, Business Development Manager at Lockheed Martin UK, told Navy Recognition that "the SC-130J Sea Herc is a very cost effective and truly UK solution" to the future MPA need.

During DSEI 2015 which took place in London from 15-18 September, UK based engineering company SubSea Craft unveiled a revolutionary new submersible called the Diver Delivery Unit (DDU). The DDU is modular and offers mission-specific capability on and under the surface. It is scalable and reconfigurable for a variety of roles. The DDU features a unique catamaran design and can deploy up to 8 special forces operators including the crew of two.

During DSEI 2015 which took place in London from 15-18 September, Isralie company UVision displayed for the first time the maritime capabilities of its HERO Lethal Loitering system on an NPL. In addition to the NPL on display, the company also exhibited the entire HERO family of 6 systems, as well as a Vehicle Platform Launcher demonstrating the HERO-30's integration capabilities with land platforms.

BAE Systems confirmed last week its selection as preferred bidder by the U.K. Ministry of Defence (MOD) to provide the gun system, known as the Maritime Indirect Fires System (MIFS), for the Type 26 Global Combat Ship. This follows the MOD’s £859 million Demonstration Phase contract for the Type 26 program that was awarded to BAE Systems earlier this year.

First Raytheon SeaRAM missile fired from U.S. Navy Littoral Combat Ship USS Coronado (LCS 4)
 
Littoral Combat Ship USS Coronado (LCS 4) successfully tracked and neutralized both single and multiple fast inshore attack craft during live-fire testing off the coast of California July 18-22. It also demonstrated the ability to counter incoming anti-ship missiles when it successfully executed the first even at-sea demonstration of the SeaRAM Point-Defense Weapon System on August 14.
For the first time, the U.S. Navy successfully fired a tactical missile from a SeaRAM launcher on an Independence variant littoral combat ship. The missile was launched Aug. 14 during a live-fire exercise at the Naval Air Warfare Center Weapons Division sea range off the coast of California. U.S.S. Coronado (LCS 4) fired a Rolling Airframe Missile from a SeaRAM® anti-ship defense system, both produced by Raytheon Company.

This new innovative technology can simulate any platform and allows operators to train on the same software as used on the submarine. Operators can then run mission based training and rehearsals in high fidelity scenarios using raw real-time data.

The Missile Defense Agency awarded Raytheon Company $87 million to purchase long-lead materials needed to produce up to 17 Standard Missile-3 Block IIAs that will be used for testing and initial deployment. A follow-on contract for the additional materials, parts and components is expected by early 2016.
