Electromagnetic Railgun
This fascinating technology, which uses high-power electromagnetic energy instead of explosive chemical propellants to launch projectiles farther and faster than any previous system, is currently in Phase 2 of the program. During this phase, BAE Systems will advance the railgun by maturing the launcher and pulsed power from a single shot operation to a multi-shot capability. Auto-loading and thermal management systems will also be incorporated. BAE Systems received a $34.5M contract from ONR in 2013 to pursue these efforts.

Hyper Velocity Projectile (HVP)
The HVP is a next-generation, common, low drag, guided projectile capable of executing multiple missions for a number of gun systems. The high-velocity compact design relieves the need for a rocket motor to extend gun range. Firing smaller, more accurate rounds decreases the likelihood for collateral damage and provides for deeper magazines and improved shipboard safety.

Mk 45 Mod 4 Naval Gun System
The 5-inch (127-mm) 62-caliber Mk 45 Mod 4 Naval Gun system is in U.S. Navy service today, and is ready to significantly enhance Naval Surface Fire Support (NSFS) and overall mission performance. Major upgrades of the Mk 45 Mod 4 include a 62-caliber barrel, strengthened gun and mount subsystems, advanced control system enhancement, and a reduced signature, low maintenance gun shield.

Mk110 Naval Gun System
BAE Systems' 57MM Mk110 (internationally known as the Bofors' 57Mk3) provides high survivability and tactical freedom at all levels of conflict. In the littoral scenario the gun must have the capability to engage threats that were impossible to engage with conventional gun systems. Survivability in such an environment requires an extremely flexible weapon system. The 57mm Mk110 has this flexibility, which is proven by the fact that it is the deck gun of choice for the US Coast Guard’s National Security Cutter and offshore patrol cutter classes of ships, as well as for the US Navy’s LCS ships.
