The Algerian National Navy (Marine Nationale Algérienne) is the maritime force of the Military of Algeria. The Algerian Navy operates from 6 naval bases along the country's 998 km coastline. Algeria is currently expanding its navy with modern warships it faces threats such as smuggling, illegal migration and terrorism in the strait of Gibraltar. The Algerian Navy has 6,600 personnel, about 30 vessels of all types and maintains a naval aviation branch.
