MuMNS

Saab develops sophisticated underwater weapon systems, sensor systems and autonomous underwater equipment, such as the "MuMNS" multi-shot mine neutralisation system.

In the Franco-British programme via OCCAR (Organisation Conjointe de Coopération en matière d'Armement / Organisation for Joint Armament Co-operation), Saab is working with Thales and other manufacturers to create the mine warfare toolbox of the future by offering its mine neutralization system. Saab's MuMNS offers a new generation of mine countermeasures and clearance in a powerful, modular system based on Saab's proven mine countermeasure (MCM) technology and solutions.

It offers unprecedented operational capability with increased flexibility and manoeuvrability, significantly increasing the speed of deployment and reducing the cost of mine countermeasures operations and the risk to personnel.

Sea Wasp

Saab's Sea Wasp represents a major change in underwater operations against IEDs and similar threats. Designed to be operated by a small team (two people) the system can be easily configured to meet specific mission requirements. Transportable, the Sea Wasp can be deployed from harbour walls or the beach.

It can also be mounted on surface vessels and is flexible enough to be loaded into several varieties of boats. The Sea Wasp is operated from a control console or from a shore-based control vehicle by means of a fibre-optic tether.

The exceptional manoeuvrability of Sea Wasp allows the operator to work in confined and difficult environments. The ROV's suite of sensors and navigation of the ROV is primarily designed to locate susceptible targets. The Sea Wasp then uses a range of tools and techniques to identify the nature of the threat and the method of elimination. In April 2020, the Netherlands selected the Saab Sea Wasp.

Sabertooth

Sabertooth is a combination of Saab's military and commercial ROV/AUV technology. It is a very powerful but lightweight inspection, maintenance and repair (IMR) platform.

The vehicle is housed in the docking unit where its batteries can be recharged. This unit can transfer data to the surface and download new instructions. Its small size, wireless operation and manoeuvrability ensure easy and safe access in and around complex structures.

This makes it ideal for offshore exploration and autonomous IMR of subsea installations and tunnels. Sabertooth can navigate autonomously to the mooring unit and remain there 24/7 for over six months without maintenance, eliminating the cost of surface vessels.

Sea Giraffe: Overview

All the Sea Giraffe radars range are 3D and multi-role radars. All of these radars are also available in terrestrial versions.

The Sea Giraffe 1X radar operates in X-band with a range of 100 km. The medium-range radar is the Sea Giraffe AMB, which operates in C-band with a range of 180 km and has been successful in the United States.

The most powerful C-band radar with a range of 400 km is the Sea Giraffe 4A, which is multi-role, AESA(Active Electrically Scanned Array), long-range and can defend larger naval vessels. The radar provides simultaneous all-weather coverage against air and surface.

The common capabilities of these radars are that they do surface and air surveillance, detection and classification of UAVs with filtering of birds for example. The Giraffe radars from Saab have a high 3D range for all aerial targets and they detect indirect fire like mortars and rockets.

Sea Giraffe 1X

The Sea Giraffe 1X can be used for C-UAS anti-UAV systems, with threats classified and filtered via Enhanced Low, Slow and Small (ELSS) software. In addition, the Sea Giraffe 1X offers full electronic countermeasures (ECCM) capabilities and is designed with a modern, simple interface to facilitate integration into any combat system architecture.

Very compact (120x70 cm), with a mast weight of fewer than 100 kilograms and very low power consumption of no more than 2.3 kW, the Sea Giraffe 1X is not only suitable for use on light ships, but can also be used as a secondary radar on heavier ships. It contains very few components and therefore requires minimal maintenance.

TactiCall Integrated Communication System

TactiCall ICS is an integrated communication solution that interconnects all communication technologies, regardless of radio band, frequency or hardware.

TactiCall ICS offers secure multi-level communications certified up to NATO secret level, is based on COTS/MOTS hardware and is certified for EAL5+ multi-level security. TactiCall ICS facilitates the chain of command, giving naval teams access to a variety of communication channels of different security levels from the same user terminal.

In the area of C2, the French Naval Group and Kership selected Saab's integrated communications system, TactiCall, for the Belgian-Dutch Mine Warfare Programme (MCMV). The partnership between Saab and Kership underlines the global cooperation with the French naval industry and will strengthen the position of Saab's TactiCall for future French programmes.

In the last three years, Saab has also equipped Finnish Pohjanmaa class corvettes, Norwegian Skjold class corvettes, Maltese OPVs and Bulgarian MMPVs.
