NAVDEX 2023: China Navy showcases Type 052DL destroyer Nanning


For the first time, the People's Republic of China has sent its Type 052DL Nanning destroyer to the NAVDEX 2023 Naval Defense Exhibition, which runs until February 24 in Abu Dhabi.

Nanning (162) is a Type 052DL destroyer of the People's Liberation Army Navy, launched on 23 February 2019 and commissioned on 12 April 2021. It has a Pennant number of 162 and is currently active.

With a displacement of 7,500 tons (full load), the destroyer measures 161 meters (528 ft) in length, 17.5 meters (57 ft) in beam, and has a draught of 6 meters (20 ft).

Powered by a combined diesel or gas propulsion system, Nanning (162) has a complement of 280 crew members. It is equipped with advanced sensors and processing systems, including Type 346 and Type 518 radar, a variable depth sonar, and towed array sonar.

The destroyer's armament includes a 130 mm gun, an HQ-10 short-range SAM 24-cell launcher, a 64-cell VLS, HHQ-9 SAM, YJ-18 SSM, CY-5 ASW, and a Type 1130 CIWS.

In addition to its weaponry, Nanning (162) can also carry one Harbin Z-20 aircraft thanks to its onboard aviation facilities, which include a hangar and helipad.
