On order of the Russian Navy’s commander-in-chief, the vessel will be named after prominent nuclear-powered submarine designer Vladimir Pyalov, the press office added.

A contract for the construction of two armament replenishment vessels was signed between the Russian Defense Ministry and the Vympel Shipyard on March 25, 2016.

The second armament replenishment vessel is planned to be delivered to the customer in 2020.
Under the contract, the armament replenishment vessel Vladimir Pyalov will join the Baltic Fleet.
The first armament replenishment vessel Gennady Dmitriyev is currently under construction at the Vympel Shipyard.
The second armament replenishment vessel will be built by the Brothers Nobel Shipyard that is a subsidiary of the Kalashnikov Corporation.

"The armament replenishment vessel is a unique project. The Defense Ministry wants to order two more vessels of the type in future. It is very nice that the Brothers Nobel Shipyard having such a long history has come to life and has been loaded with orders thanks to the Kalashnikov Corporation and the Vympel Shipyard," Vympel Shipyard CEO Oleg Belkov said.
"In near future, 500 more persons are planned to be employed. In April, the merger of the Vympel and the Brothers Nobel Shipyards will be completed and we will start to build up-to-date ships together," he added.
