The U.S. Navy released a request for proposals (RFP) to industry for the development of the Medium Unmanned Surface Vehicle (MUSV), July 16. The U.S. Navy wants to develop and procure three new types of unmanned vehicles (UVs) in FY2020 and beyond—Large Unmanned Surface Vehicles (LUSVs), Medium Unmanned Surface Vehicles (MUSVs), and Extra-Large Unmanned Undersea Vehicles (XLUUVs).

GE Marine's LM2500+G4 gas turbine will soon power the Italian Navy’s new Paolo Thaon di Revel Pattugliatore Polivalente d’Altura (PPA) multipurpose offshore patrol ship. This efficient hybrid-electric powered ship was launched at a June 15 ceremony at the Fincantieri Shipyard in Muggiano - La Spezia, Italy, and will be delivered to the Italian Navy in 2021.

The Sevmash Shipbuilding Company based in Severodvinsk will lay down two Yasen-M nuclear-powered submarines of project 885M at its shipyards in 2020-2021 under a contract which was concluded at the Army-2019 International Military-Technical Forum, the company’s Head Mikhail Budnichenko told TASS on the sidelines of the International Maritime Defense Show (IMDS-2019).

During her visit to BAE Systems’ Govan shipyard on 9 July, Linda Reynolds, the Australian Minister for Defence, announced the latest Type 26 supplier contract with Airspeed, an Adelaide-based company specialising in ‘design and build’ applications of composite materials for aerospace, maritime and energy-related projects.

A vessel taken over from China in a bid to enhance operational capabilities of Sri Lanka Navy arrived on 8 July in Colombo. The official taking over ceremony of ship ‘P625’ was held on June 5 in China, at the Shanghai Dockyard, Darshana Sanjeewa Balasuriya reports in the Daily Mirror.

The construction of project 20380 corvettes will end in late 2021. It is a historical event for the Navy. For the first time in the post-Soviet period the industry produced a full series of corvettes. Ten warships of the project will be built. Project 20380 will be replaced by upgraded project 20386, the Izvestia daily writes.

On Friday, July 5 in Brussels, Belgium and the Netherlands signed the contract for the joint purchase of twelve new-generation mine hunters. Naval Group & Eca-Robotics Sasu, the two French companies that have won this contract of around 1.1 billion euros for each country, will ensure a significant share of the production in Belgium. The contract of more than two billion euros spans on ten years.

The Akademik Pashin tanker of project 23130 completed a stage of trials in late June to test interaction between the crew and a helicopter. The trials were held in the framework of acceptance tests together with the Navy, Nevsky Shipyard said.
