Speaking to TASS Russian News Agency on June 27, 2019, Mikhail Budnichenko, the CEO of Sevmash Shipyard, said, "In compliance with the contracts, we will finish the construction of Borei submarines in 2023 and Yasen subs in 2024."

The Project 955 Borei class submarines, as well as the upgraded Borei-A version, are nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarines. Three of the base model version have been delivered to the Navy to date. One of those submarines, Yuri Dolgoruky, is in service with the Northern Fleet and the other two, Alexander Nevsky and Vladimir Monomakh, are with the Pacific Fleet.

Borei-A modernized submarines come with an upgrade to the hull, as well as better electronics and stealth technology, TASS reported. Knyaz Vladimir, the first of the upgraded Borei-A class, is presently undergoing factory trials and could be delivered to the Navy before the end of 2019. Another four in the class have been laid down and should be ready to join the Navy in the coming years.

Project 885 Yasen is a class of nuclear-powered cruise missile submarines. At present, only one Yasen class submarine, Severodvinsk, is in service. Another, Kazan, was slated to join the Navy this year, but will likely be commissioned in 2020 at the earliest. Kazan is the first of the upgraded Yasen-M design, and another five submarines of that class, all of which have been laid down, will be joining the Navy.
