Hellenic Coastguard takes delivery of first Viking Norsafe Munin S1200 ambulance boat


According to information published by the Naval Today website on August 13, 2020, the Hellenic Coastguard took delivery of first Viking Norsafe Munin S1200 ambulance boat specially designed to be fitted with medical equipment to support the Hellenic National Centre for Emergency Care (EKAB) and the Hellenic Coastguard.

The Hellenic Coast Guard is the national coast guard of Greece. Like many other coast guards, it is a paramilitary organization that can support the Hellenic Navy in wartime, but resides under separate civilian control in times of peace.

The main missions of the Hellenic Coast Guard are law enforcement at sea, search and rescue, marine safety, preventing sea pollution, fisheries patrolling, preventing illegal immigration and drug interdiction.

The Munin S1200 boat was delivered by the Viking’s branch in Greece. The VIKING Norsafe Munin S1200 has a twin waterjet from Alamarin with joystick control and dynamic positioning. It employs a twin installation, Mercury diesel engines developing 740 hp offering a top speed of 45 knots.

Citing the Naval Today website, the S1200 comes complete with shock mitigation technology, ensuring safe patient transport and allowing high-quality medical services to be provided in transit. Certified by RINA, the boat operates safely up to Beaufort force 8 and at a wave height up to 4m. It also features the latest generation, Lowrance-branded navigational equipment from Navico, while its onboard diesel generator powers air conditioning/heating with a capacity of 26,000 btu/h.
