The Russian Navy Black Sea fleet will get the Retivy Steregushchiy-class corvette of project 20380 by the end of the year. It was built with stealth technologies and can engage in patrol, protect caravans of vessels and defend them against air and underwater strikes. Experts believe the Retivy will reinforce the strategic southern direction, the Izvestia daily writes.

The Future USS Oakland (LCS-24) Independence-class Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) has left Austal on May 20, 2020, for acceptance trials in the Gulf of Mexico. Oakland was built by Austal USA in Mobile, Alabama. The keel laying ceremony was held at the Austal USA shipyards in Mobile on 20 July 2018. The vessel was launched on 21 July 2019 from Austal USA in Mobile, Alabama.

The Boeing Co., Huntington Beach, California, is awarded a $13,211,471 cost-plus-fixed-fee and cost-only modification to previously awarded contract N00024-18-C-4103, to exercise options in support of the AN/USQ-82(V) program for DDG-51 class new construction, DDG-51 class modernization, operations and maintenance, research and development and Foreign Military Sales (FMS)

The “Greyhawks” of Airborne Command & Control Squadron (VAW) 120 successfully conducted the first fleet aerial refueling dry-plug certification between an E-2D Advanced Hawkeye and an F/A-18F Super Hornet - from Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 211, May 11, 2020. Carrier Airborne Early Warning Squadron 120 (VAW-120) nicknamed Greyhawks is a United States Navy Fleet Replacement Squadron responsible for training crews on the E-2 Hawkeye and the C-2 Greyhound.

The U.S. Navy’s first Yard Tug (YT) 808 class vessel was successfully launched at Dakota Creek Industries (DCI) shipyard, May 16, 2020. The YT 808 vessels are designed to perform towing and ship-handling duties for carriers, surface ships, submarines and barges.

Thyssenkrupp Marine Systems (Kiel, Germany) has signed a contract to acquire the Oceana shipyard in Brazil (Itajaí, state of Santa Catarina). The seller is Aliança S.A., a company owned by CBO Group (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil), a leader in offshore support vessels sector and one of the largest employers of qualified maritime personnel in the Brazilian market.

 

Damen Shipyards Group has signed an agreement with Korean yard Hanjin Heavy Industries and Construction (HHIC) to deliver a complete components package. The package includes all equipment for oil recovery operations as well as a complete dredging installation. The multi-purpose vessel will primarily act as an oil recovery vessel, and will undertake work as a hopper dredger when not tending to emergencies.

The French Minister for the Armed Forces, Mme Florence Parly, took a tour of selected Defence Industry sites in the Loire-Atlantique region on Monday 18 May 2020. This particular region hosts a large number of key strategic Industrial stakeholders such as Airbus or Naval Group. This tour intended to promote, support and publicize the French Government comprehensive National plan for the “restart and relaunch of Industrial activities” in the French territory. The Minister for the Armed Forces leads the Defence Industry folder of the plan, quite naturally.
