“The hull for one of the second two Project 11711 large amphibious assault ships has been maximally formed. The hull of the first large amphibious assault ship is planned to be taken to a slipway in late June,” the press office said.

“The hull of the second ship is currently being assembled. All major contracts for items with a long manufacturing cycle have been completed, taking into account the import substitution program,” the press office said.

The Project 11711 ships Vladimir Andreyev and Vasily Trushin were laid down by the Yantar Shipyard in April 2019. They will receive a new powerplant unlike the first ships of project 11711. The powerplant will have four 16D49 diesel engines. A more powerful powerplant became necessary due to the bigger size of the ships. The ships’ index has not changed. Ships of the type are expected to carry Kamov Ka-52K (Hokum-B) helicopters. The design of the superstructure has been changed.

Earlier, the Yantar Shipyard built two baseline Project 11711 ships. The lead ship Ivan Gren was delivered to the Navy in June 2018. The first serial Project 11711 ship Petr Morgunov was handed over to the customer in December 2020.

The Ivan Gren-class, Russian designation Project 11711, is a class of landing ship in service with the Russian Navy. Two ships of this class have already been delivered to the Russian Navy including the Ivan Gren and Pyotr Morgunov, and two other ships are under construction.

The Ivan Gren-class has a displacement of 5,000–6,000 tons and is able to carry up to 13 main battle tanks or 36 armored personnel carriers as well as up to 300 marines. She is armed with one 30 mm AK-630M-2 automatic cannon, two 30 mm AK-630 guns, and two 14.5 mm KPV type heavy machine guns.
