JS Suzutsuki (DD-117) is the third ship of Akizuki-class destroyers. Suzutsuki was laid down on May 18, 2011, at Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Nagasaki Shipyard & Machinery Works, she was commissioned on 12 March 2014.

The destroyer has a length of 150.5 m (493 ft 9 in), a beam of 18.3 m (60 ft 0 in), and a draft of 5.3 m (17 ft 5 in). She can reach a top speed of 30 knots (56 km/h; 35 mph).

The Akizuki class of destroyers of the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force is intended to escort the Hyūga-class and Izumo-class helicopter destroyers and safeguard the other Aegis-capable warships such as the Kongō class and Atago class.

There are many small improvements, such as cleaner lines to reduce the radar signature and decoys for torpedoes; but the principal changes can be summed up as more powerful engines, sensors, sonar, and the indigenous ATECS battle management system that has been called the Japanese AEGIS.

The main features of the class include enhanced C4ISR and Anti-Aircraft Warfare (AAW) capability, with an OYQ-11 advanced Combat Direction Sub-system (CDS) and FCS-3A AAW weapon sub-system.
