Russian Navy to receive Project 09852 submarine Belgorod in summer


According to information published by Tass on January 27, 2022, the Project 09852 special-purpose nuclear-powered submarine Belgorod (Oscar II-class) will carry Poseidon nuclear-powered unmanned underwater craft (Kanyon) is planned to be delivered to the Russian Navy in the summer of 2022.

K-329 Belgorod is a modified Oscar II class Russian nuclear submarine. It was originally laid down as a Project 949A cruise missile submarine (Oscar II class), but it is now a special operations vessel, able to operate unmanned underwater vehicles.

It was laid by Sevmash on July 24, 1992, and re-laid on December 20, 2012, by project 09852 and floated on April 23, 2019.

The Belgorod K-329 submarine has a length of 184 m, a beam of 15 m, and a maximum displacement of 30,000 tones. She can reach a surface speed of 32 knots (59 km/h) and a depth of 500 to 520 m. She has a complement of 110 people.

The Belgorod can carry 6 Poseidon drones, an autonomous, nuclear-powered, and nuclear-armed unmanned underwater vehicle under development by Rubin Design Bureau, capable of delivering both conventional and nuclear payloads.
