Chinese Shipyard commissions Pakistanese Type 054A/P frigate PNS Taimur


According to a tweet published by Zhang Meifang on June 23, 2022, the second Type 054A/P frigate constructed for Pakistan Navy, the PNS Taimur, was commissioned at Hudong-Zhonghua Shipyard in Shanghai.

The Type 054A (NATO/OSD Jiangkai II) is a class of guided-missile frigate from the People's Republic of China. It is a development of the Type 054 frigate; compared to its predecessor, the Type 054A has medium-range air defense capability in the form of Type 382 radar and vertically launched (VLS) HHQ-16 surface-to-air missiles.

The Type 054A entered service with the People's Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) in January 2008,[4] and was a key component of the PLAN's surface fleet by the late 2010s. Production was ongoing in 2021.

Pakistan ordered four Type 054A variants from Hudong-Zhonghua in 2017-2018 as the Type 054A/P or Tughril class. The first entered service on 8 November 2021.

The frigates have a length of 134 meters (44 ft), a beam of 16 meters (52 ft), and a displacement of 3963 tonnes. They can reach a top speed of 27 knots.

The Type 054A are armed with 32-cell VLS, two x four YJ-83 anti-ship missiles, PJ26 76 mm dual-purpose gun, two Type 730 7-barrel 30 mm CIWS guns, two 3 324 mm Yu-7 ASW torpedo launchers, and two x six Type 87 240 mm anti-submarine rocket launcher and two Type 726-4 18-tube decoy rocket launchers.
