The corvette Al Zubarah and the OPV Musherib arrived in Qatar


According to a PR published by Fincantieri on September 13, 2022, the arrival in Qatar of the Al Zubarah corvette and the OPV Musherib, built at the integrated military shipyard of Riva Trigoso and Muggiano as part of the naval acquisition program of the Ministry of Defense of Qatar, was celebrated with a ceremony at the Umm Al Houl base.

For the occasion, the company was represented by Chairman Claudio Graziano and Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director Pierroberto Folgiero.

A delegation from the client country led by Khalid bin Mohammed Al Attiyah, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Defense Affairs and Staff Major General Abdulla Bin Hassan Al Sulaiti, Commander of the Qatar Emiri Naval Forces, also attended. The vessels will soon enter service for the upcoming FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.

Al Zubarah (F101) is the lead ship of the Doha-class corvettes built for the Qatari Emiri Navy. The ship was laid down in June 2018 in Fincantieri shipyard in Muggiano, Italy. She was launched on 27 February 2020.

They will be about 107 meters long, 14.70 meters wide, and equipped with a combined diesel and diesel plant (CODAD), with a maximum speed of 28 knots. The units will be able to accommodate 112 persons on board.

They are able to operate high-speed boats such as rigid-hulled inflatable boat with the help of lateral cranes and hauling ramps. All four of the Doha class will serve as the backbone of the Qatari Emiri Navy.

The corvette is armed with OTO Melara 76 mm gun, 16 Aster 30 Block 1 surface-to-air missiles, 8 Exocet MM40 Block 3 anti-ship missiles, two Hitrole remote weapons, and RIM-116 Rolling Airframe Missile.
