LIMA 2023: India displays its Kamorta class corvette INS Kavaratti

INS Kavaratti belongs to the Kamorta-class corvette. It has a displacement of 3,300 tons and a length of 109 meters (358 feet). The beam measures 12.8 meters (42 feet).

The propulsion system consists of four Pielstick 12 PA6 STC Diesel engines, offering a Combined Diesel and Diesel (CODAD) configuration. The corvette achieves a speed of 25 knots (46 km/h). It has a range of 3,450 miles (5,550 km) at 18 knots (33 km/h).

The complement of the INS Kavaratti is 123 personnel, including 17 officers.

For its sensors and processing systems, it is equipped with the Revati Central Acquisition Radar, EL/M-2221 STGR fire-control radar, BEL Shikari, BEL RAWL02 (Signaal LW08) antenna communication grid, and NPOL HUMSA (Hull Mounted Sonar Array). It features a Gigabit Ethernet-based integrated shipborne data network with a fiber optic cable backbone running throughout the vessel.

The corvette is equipped with the Sanket electronic warfare system and Kavach decoy launcher for electronic warfare and decoy capabilities. It utilizes the BEL Ajanta Electronic Warfare (EW) suites. The CMS-28 combat management system is also employed.

In terms of armament, INS Kavaratti carries anti-air weaponry including one OTO Melara 76 mm Super Rapid Gun Mount (SRGM) and two AK-630M Close-In Weapon Systems (CIWS). It is planned to be outfitted with VL-SRSAM (Vertical Launch Short Range Surface-to-Air Missile) systems. For anti-submarine warfare, it possesses two RBU-6000 (IRL) anti-submarine rocket launchers and two sets of four torpedo tubes.

The corvette has the capacity to carry either a Westland Sea King Mk.42B or an HAL Dhruv helicopter. It features a rail-less helo traversing system and a foldable hangar door for aviation operations.
