The "Admiral Vladimirsky," constructed at the Varsko Shipyard in Szczecin in 1975, is an oceanographic research vessel. She is a part of Project 852, which produced a total of six ships, including the "Academician Krylov," delivered to the USSR Navy in 1974.

Measuring 147.8 meters in length and 18.6 meters in width, the ship has a draft of 6.4 meters and displaces 9120 tons. Powering the Admiral Vladimirsky are two diesel engines, generating a total of 16,000 horsepower, which drive two propellers.

The ship can travel at speeds up to 19 knots and has an operational autonomy of up to 90 days, covering distances of up to 18,000 miles, or approximately 25,000 kilometers.

The ship's primary role is to facilitate a range of scientific research, including studies in chemical hydrology, marine biology, maritime meteorology, actinometric observations, and aerological studies.

Onboard, there are two hydrographic survey boats and 19 specialized laboratories. She also houses a 7-ton crane and two smaller cranes each with a 250 kg capacity.

The Admiral Vladimirsky includes a helipad and a hangar designed for a single Ka-25 type helicopter. Its hull is robust, capable of withstanding the pressure of ice up to 1 meter thick. The ship is operated by a crew of 170, and can also carry up to 80 additional passengers for expeditionary purposes.
