France's military strategy in the Indo-Pacific region is driven by several key objectives. First, it aims to protect and defend French territories and citizens in the region, including Reunion, Mayotte, New Caledonia, and French Polynesia. This involves ensuring their security, sovereignty, and economic interests.

Another objective is to maintain open and secure maritime routes for trade and ensure the safety of international shipping. France places great importance on maritime security and freedom of navigation in the Indo-Pacific.

France seeks to strengthen partnerships and cooperation with countries in the region that share its values and interests. This includes joint exercises, capacity building, and defense cooperation agreements to address common challenges and promote stability.

To implement its strategy, France maintains a permanent military presence in the region. This includes naval and air assets, as well as military bases in its overseas territories, which serve as hubs for operational activities and contribute to regional security.

France also contributes to international security operations, such as counter-piracy efforts and UN peacekeeping missions, and engages in humanitarian and disaster relief operations in the region.

One of the key challenges is managing the complex dynamics between the United States and China, which have a significant influence on the region's security landscape. France must carefully navigate this strategic rivalry while upholding its own interests and promoting stability.
