According to the Northern Fleet, the warship crossed the Equator for the first time in February.

During the long-range voyage, the Admiral Gorshkov sailed through three oceans, five seas, and two straight zones. “The sailors have covered more than 16,100 nautical miles since they left the Northern Fleet’s main base in Severomorsk,” the fleet’s press service said.

The frigate equipped with the Zircon hypersonic missiles left for the sea voyage on January 4. Russian President Vladimir Putin commanded the ship’s exit to combat service.

In January, Admiral Gorshkov held air defense exercises in the Norwegian Sea. In February, the frigate took part in the joint naval exercise, codenamed Mosi, of South Africa, Russia, and China.

Admiral Gorshkov is the leading multi-purpose frigate of project 22350 of the long-range sea and oceanic zones. It was built at the Northern Shipyard of the United Shipbuilding Corporation (USC).

The frigate joined the Russian Navy in July 2018. In December 2022, it made an inter-fleet passage and arrived in Severomorsk, the Northern Fleet’s main base, after regular technical maintenance at the Kronstadt Marine Plant.

She has a displacement of 4,550 tons, a length of 135 meters (442.9 feet), a beam of 16 meters (52.5 feet), and a draft of 4.5 meters (14.8 feet). These specifications enable the vessel to navigate and operate effectively in various maritime environments, from littoral waters to the open ocean.

The frigate's propulsion system is a combination of 2 shaft CODAG, 2 10D49 cruise diesel engines (5,200 shp/3,900 kW), and 2 M90FR boost gas turbines (27,500 shp/20,500 kW), providing a total output of 65,000 shp (48,000 kW).

This advanced propulsion system allows the Admiral Gorshkov-class frigate to reach a top speed of 29.5 knots (54.6 km/h; 33.9 mph) and a range of 4,000 nautical miles (7,400 km; 4,600 mi) at 14 knots (26 km/h; 16 mph).
