Russian Military modifies MT-LB with naval rocket launchers RBU-6000.

According to a Telegram post published by BTVT2019 on September 24, 2023, the Russian armed forces have adapted naval anti-submarine rocket launchers, known as the RBU-6000, for use on their MT-LB armored personnel carriers.

This adjustment aims to enhance the vehicle's firepower and operational reach. Capable of launching rockets up to 4.5 km, each RBU-6000 rocket weighs around 119 kg, including a 23.5 kg explosive warhead. However, concerns have been raised about the accuracy of these rockets, especially given their original maritime design.

Additionally, the loading method for the RBU-6000 on the MT-LB seems labor-intensive, requiring manual intervention. This contrasts with its naval use, where the system benefits from mechanized reloading, making it a more streamlined process.

The total weight of the RBU-6000, standing at 3.5 tons, coupled with the rockets weighing an extra 1.5 tons, might also strain the MT-LB, a vehicle primarily designed as a tractor.

About the rocket launcher

The Russian Navy employs it on their Udaloy-class destroyers and Gepard-class frigates. In Asia, the Indian Navy has equipped ships like the Rajput, Visakhapatnam-class destroyers, and Kamorta-class corvettes with this system.

The naval forces of Vietnam and Indonesia also utilize it, particularly on their Petya II/III-class frigates and Parchim I-class corvettes. Libya, Syria, Algeria, and Cuba have similarly integrated the system into specific vessels in their respective fleets.
