This initial at-sea testing included a series of surface runs and short dives, marking a pivotal moment in the vehicle's development. The project remains on track, with expectations to deliver the first two production vehicles by mid-2024.

About the UUV

The REMUS 620 is notable for its long battery life, which can last up to 110 hours, and its operational range of 275 nautical miles. The design of the UUV is modular and open, allowing for flexibility in mission assignments.

It can be used for various purposes, including mine countermeasures, hydrographic surveys, intelligence, surveillance, and electronic warfare. The REMUS 620 is also capable of operating in collaboration with other similar units and can be deployed from a range of platforms like submarines, small boats, amphibious ships, surface combatants, and helicopters.

The vehicle comes in different configurations depending on the battery options chosen, which affects its length, weight, endurance, and maximum range.

The REMUS 620 also integrates environmental sensors and options for synthetic aperture sonar. It is rated for depths of up to 600 meters. Its propulsion and control are managed by a direct drive DC brushless motor and it includes acoustic communications capabilities.

The UUV is supported by the Odyssey™ Mission Management Software, part of HII's suite of advanced autonomy solutions, which assists in planning, monitoring, and analyzing missions.
