Kongsberg Maritime sonar chosen for Swedish Navy Tapper Class fast patrol boats
 
Swede Ship Marine will install new Kongsberg Maritime sonar systems as part of a major rebuild and lifetime extension of five patrol boats for the Swedish Navy. The new sonars will replace the previous model SIMRAD SS576 sonars first installed in 1996 on board the Tapper-class (or Bevakningsbåt 80), with the purpose to protect and patrol Swedish coastal waters.

Russia Reduces Procurement of Ivan Gren Class Landing Ship to Focus on Mistral Analog Lavina
 
According to Moscow-based online newspaper Lenta, the Russian Navy is about to reduce the procurement of project 11711 Ivan Gren class large amphibious assault ship under the state program. The Russian Navy was originally planning to procure six vessels in this class but procurement will actually stop after the Peter Morgunov (Pyotr Morgunov), the second unit which keel has just been laid. Russia will instead focus on the "Avalanche" project, a Russian analog to the Mistral class.

Royal Moroccan Navy Ordered a 50 Meters LCT Landing Craft Tank from PIRIOU Shipyard
 
French Shipyard PIRIOU based in Concarneau (Brittany) has just won a contract with the Royal Moroccan Navy for a 50 meters LCT (Landing Craft Tank) which will be operated in the coastal waters of Morocco. This new unit will be built in France with delivery expected in mid-2016.

DCNS validates maritime surveillance solutions in the Gulf of Guinea with L'Adroit and POLARIS
 
DCNS conducted three demonstration operations for POLARIS® and NIDL® on 28 May in Douala (Cameroon), 10 June in Abidjan (Ivory Coast) and 22 June in Dakar (Senegal). The simulation of a sea-rescue and offender interception scenario under real conditions required the deployment of the POLARIS® mission system in a land-based centre as well as on board L’Adroit, an OPV built by DCNS on its own funds and loaned, free of charge, to the French navy. The representatives of the Cameroonian, Ivory Coast and Senegalese Navies each provided their support to the real-time deployment of data-transmission capacities between the land-based operations centre and the OPV deployed at sea.

Live Paket-NK Torpedo Launched from Russian Navy Corvette Boiky During ASW Exercise
 
During a recent Russian Navy anti-submarine warfare (ASW) exercise, Steregushchiy class corvette Boiky (Project 2038.1) fired a live Paket-NK (ПАКЕТ-НК) torpedo. The exercise also involved Parchim-class corvette Kalmykia (Project 1331M), Kilo class submarine Vyborg (Project 877) and a Kamov Ka-27 ASW helicopter.

On July 4th, in the presence of the Minister of Justice Andrea Orlando, the Fincantieri shipyard in Muggiano (La Spezia) hosted the launching ceremony for the “Romeo Romei” submarine, the last of the four U212A “Todaro” class twin units ordered to Fincantieri by the Central Unit for Naval Armament – NAVARM for the Italian Navy.

Submarines are strategic defence assets and the Gotland-class is designed to be in service for some three decades. Over that long period, their 1500 tonne, 60 metre long hulls are subject to the rigours of some of the toughest nautical environments - including the ice cold of the Baltic Sea. In addition to the waves of the sea, they are subject to the relentless tide of technological development – one which they have to stay at the forefront of, if they are to remain an effective part of a nation’s defence.

Pictures of two new Su-30SM fighters for the Russian Ny have emerged on Russian spotter forums. The most recent picture shows the latest Su-30SM with serial number "40" and "41" on order for the Russian Navy. The contract for the purchase of five Su-30SM for the Russian Navy was signed in December 2013. Three jets were delivered last year and the remaining should be delivered this year. The aircraft are manufactured by Irkut Corporation (member of United Aircraft Corporation).

Russia's Rosoboronexport to supply China with Zubr landing craft ordered in Ukraine
 
According to Russian state owned news outlet TASS, Russia’s arms exporter Rosoboronexport intends to fulfill the contract on the supply of the Zubr landing ships to China, Rosoboronexport deputy CEO Igor Sevastyanov told reporters on Friday at the International Maritime Defence Show (IMDS-2015) in St. Petersburg.

According to Russian state owned news outlet TASS, Russia’s arms exporter Rosoboronexport intends to fulfill the contract on the supply of the Zubr landing ships to China, Rosoboronexport deputy CEO Igor Sevastyanov told reporters on Friday at the International Maritime Defence Show (IMDS-2015) in St. Petersburg.

Fincantieri to Supply Four OPVs to the Bangladesh Coast Guard
 
Fincantieri has been awarded the contract with the Bangladesh Coast Guard (BCG) for the supply of four Italian Navy “Minerva” class corvettes to be upgraded and converted into Offshore Patrol Vessels (OPVs), and to provide the related logistics support services. These units, which will be decommissioned by the Italian Navy and replaced by the new vessels covered by the fleet renewal program, have been remised by the Italian Navy through a reselling contract executed by the Central Unit for Naval Armament and Fincantieri. The last lowering of the flag of the first couple of vessels "Minerva" and "Sibilla" was held last 14 May in Augusta. Present at the ceremony the Chief of Staff of the Italian Navy, Admiral De Giorgi. On 29 June the two units arrived at Fincantieri’s dock in Genova, where the upgrading and conversion activities started and will completed at the naval shipyard in LaSpezia. After that the units will be handed over by Fincantieri to the Coast Guard of Bangladesh.

During the 7th International Maritime Defence Show (IMDS 2015), which is being held in St. Petersburg from 1 to 5 July 2015, Russian Helicopters (part of State Corporation Rostec) showcasing potential plans for the renewed production of the unique amphibious Mi-14 helicopter. This multirole helicopter can land and taxi on water, and also take-off from water.

Singapore's Minister for Defense Ng Eng Hen on Friday officially launched Independence, the Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN)'s first Littoral Mission Vessel ( LMV), which marked a significant milestone for the LMV program. The eight new LMVs will replace the RSN's Fearless-class patrol vessels (PVs), which have been in service for 20 years.

Last year, Dmitry Konoplev, managing director of KBP said “The Defense Ministry showed great interest in the naval variant of the Pantsir. It has been decided that several destroyers and other large warships will be modernized to accommodate the system,”

Russian Navy to Get 18 New Project 22800 Corvettes to Supplement Buyan-M Corvettes
 
Russia’s first new class corvette of Project 22800 for the naval forces will be laid down by the end of the current year, and the Navy will get a total of 18 such ships, Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Navy Admiral Viktor Chirkov said on Wednesday. "To keep the pace of ship construction, we’ll replace, for example, [Project] 11356 by building a new series of vessels - small missile ships, corvettes armed with cruise missiles - [Project] 22800. This work is being done today, and we hope that by the end of the year we’ll be able to lay down the first ship," Chirkov said at the St. Petersburg International Maritime Defence Show (IMDS-2015).

Fincantieri & Finmeccanica to Build 1 Multipurpose Amphibious Unit LHD for the Italian Navy
 
Fincantieri, one of the world’s largest shipbuilding groups and reference player in the naval shipbuilding industry, and Finmeccanica, Italy’s leading manufacturer in the high technology sector, have been awarded the contract for the construction and equipment of one multipurpose amphibious unit (LHD) for the Italian Navy. The total value of the contract is over 1.1 billion euros, with Fincantieri’s share amounting to approx. 853 million euros and Finmeccanica's to about 273 million euros. The delivery of the unit is scheduled in 2022.

Work In Progress on Japan Maritime Self Defense Force Second Izumo class Helicopter Destroyer
 
Recent pictures have emmerged showing the construction work in progress on Japan Maritime Self Defense Force (JMSDF) second Izumo-class helicopter carrier. The island has been placed on the hull of the destroyer in the dry construction dock at the Ishikawajima-Harima Heavy Industries Co., Ltd (IHI Corporation) in Yokohama. The DDH-184 which has yet to be nammed should be launched in August this year.
