"A Borei-class submarine will be laid down on December 23. It will be designated as Knyaz Pozharsky," the source said. The submarine Knyaz Pozharsky will be the final submarine in a series of eight Project 955 submarines and the fifth submarine that will be built under the upgraded Project 955A.

Russia’s Navy has already received three submarines of this series. Each of the submarines can carry 16 Bulava (NATO reporting name: SS-NX-32) intercontinental ballistic missiles. The submarine Knyaz Vladimir, which was laid down in 2012, is being built under the upgraded project. Two Project 955A submarines, the Knyaz Oleg and Generalissimo Suvorov, were laid down in 2014. The Project 955A submarine Emperor Alexander III was laid down in 2015.
