The new ship hull and superstructure are being built in two sections, with the 94 metres long and approx. 4,000t fore section being built by Fincantieri shipbuilding group at Castellammare di Stabia (near Naples), while the 86 metres and 7,000t aft section is being provided by Riva Trigoso (Genoa) shipyard. Steel cutting ceremonies were held respectively in the two facilities on 9 and 16 February 2016 and the keel laying for the aft section was held in Riva Trigoso on 12 July 2016. Before the end of 3rd quarter of 2017 the two sections will be transferred and assembled at Muggiano’s shipyard floating dock, where the new ship will be completed for a planned launch in the last quarter of 2017. After outfitting, the first sea-going of the platform is due in the second quarter of 2018, with the first ship combat system sea acceptance trial later in 2018. Delivery is scheduled in February 2019.
