"Everyone knows that Ukraine's political leaders unilaterally severed all defense cooperation ties and stopped shipping products to Russian enterprises. Such unfair actions by a neighboring state caused temporary difficulties for the United Shipbuilding Corporation's shipyards in fitting new Project 11356 and Project 22350 frigates with gas-turbine engines," USC said on its website on June 8.

"USC intends to ask a court to compel Ukraine to fulfill the already paid-up contracts for supply of gas-turbine engines," the statement reads.

In late 2017 - early 2018 NPO Saturn will start supplying gas-turbine engines for the Russian Navy's ships, USC said. The frigates fitted with the engines under the import-substitution program are due to be handed over to the Navy in early 2020, USC said.

The first three frigates of Project 11356 and the first two ships of Project 22350 have already been fitted with Ukrainian-made gas-turbine engines, USC said. Both projects' subsequent frigates will be fitted with Russian-made engines with characteristics superior to those of their Ukrainian counterparts, the company said.
