Leidos is the prime contactor, working alongside eight other companies from Canada, France, Germany, The Netherlands, UK and Turkey. Their role is to design, develop and test the interfaces with NATO's and national, weapons and sensors.

The programme has a duration of four years and the work of Thales will be to perform the testing and verification activities required for the overall verification of the NATO BMD architecture. Thales has a long experience in naval defence systems and long-range sensor technology. Therefore, its experience will prove valuable on the Integrated Test Bed.

Thales' capabilities were further proved during the recent "At Sea Demonstration", which took place in October and was organized by the Maritime Theatre Missile Defence Forum. The company's sensor technology was capable of detecting and tracking extra-terrestrial objects and transmit this picture to the NATO BMD organization for the elimination of the threat.

John Alfrink, Thales Vice President for Above Water Systems activities, said: "We have reached this important milestone together with our partners and see this as an appreciation of our efforts in the field of ballistic missile defence technology for more than a decade."
