US Navy's NAVAIR to Fly the First 3D Printed V-22 in June
 
The Joint Logistic Support Ship (JSS) Karel Doorman was officially put into service in the Royal Netherlands Navy on 29 April. The largest ship of the Dutch navy is now called His Majesty (Zr. Ms.) Karel Doorman. "The Karel Doorman is impressive in size, but also because of the number of functionalities. This ship is literally a multi-tool, "said Commander of Naval Forces lieutenant-general Rob Verkerk at commissioning.
US Naval Air Systems Command plans to fly the first Bell V-22 Osprey made of 3D printed parts sometime this year, according to its vice commander Rear Adm. Francis Morley. During his speech at the Sea-Air-Space exhibition, he said that the first flight will be the critical test that will prove the value of the technology in manufacturing critical parts.
 

SAS 2016: Bell unveils V-280 Valor naval variant
 
As Bell Helicopter is moving forward with the Osprey integration in the US Navy under the Carrier Onboard Delivery program, the Fort-Worth-based rotorcraft manufacturer started preliminary studies on a naval variants of its future V-280 Valor tiltrotor aircraft. Navy Recognition learned during Sea-Air-Space 2016. A company representative stressed that no Navy requirements have been issued yet however.

SAS 2016: SHARC Autonomous Craft Tested and Integrated with P-8A Poseidon MPA
 
During Sea-Air-Space 2016, Boeing and its partner Liquid Robotics were showcasing the Sensor Hosting Autonomous Remote Craft (SHARC). The SHARC is based on Liquid Robotics' Wave Glider SV3, a unique wave and solar propelled 2 parts system (one on the surface, the other under water).

AeroVironment recently unveiled its new Mantis i45 electro-optical/infrared (EO/IR) gimbal payload designed for the company's Puma AE small unmanned aircraft systems. This new advanced payload has demonstrated its capabilities during this edition of Sea-Air-Space exhibition, which was held until May 18 at the Gaylord Convention Center, National Harbor.

Northrop Grumman reaches key milestone with US Navy's Inertial Navigation System program
 
Northrop Grumman has successfully completed the Preliminary Design Review (PDR) for the Inertial Sensor Module, a critical component of the U.S. Navy's Inertial Navigation System Replacement (INS-R), the company announced at Sea-Air-Space 2016. The system will be named WSN-12, and will replace the WSN-7.

HII & Battelle are Showcasing the Proteus DUMV at Sea Air Space 2016
 
During the Navy League’s 2016 Sea-Air-Space Exposition, Advanced Acoustic Concepts (a DRS/Thales company) is showcasing the Towed Synthetic Aperture Sonar (T-SAS). The T-SAS is the upgraded version of the TSM 2054 SSS (Side Scan Sonar) which has been in service for more than 12 years with the Danish Navy (8 ship sets, 12 vehicles and sonar).3 ship sets of the T-SAS have been sold to the French Navy under the name of DUBM-44.
At the Navy League’s Sea-Air-Space 2016 exposition currently held near Washington D.C., Undersea Solution Group (HII) and Battelle are showcasing their Proteus Dual Mode Underwater Vehicle (DUMV). Proteus has a dual capability: Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV) and Swimmer Delivery Vehicle (SDV).
 

SAS 2016: Airbus moving forward with TRS-4D integration on LCS Freedom variant
 
Airbus Defense and Space Inc. announced today it will fit the new TRS-4D radar on Lockheed Martin's LCS-25. This award marks the 5th TRS-4D radar scheduled for installation aboard an LCS. The TRS-4D is a comprehensive upgrade of Airbus' TRS-3D radars, which has been installed aboard eight Freedom variant LCS', plus one aboard a test LCS. This new radar is an inline upgrade on Lockheed Martin's remaining LCS ships, starting with LCS-17.

The Swedish defence and security company Saab presented its remotely operated vehicle (ROV), Sea Wasp, at the Navy League’s Sea-Air-Space Exposition in National Harbor, Maryland. Sea Wasp, which relocates, identifies and neutralizes underwater improvised explosive devices (IEDs), is designed to combat below-the-surface terrorism.

During SAS, two "Emergency Integrated Lifesaving Lanyard" are demonstrating their capabilities in Potomac's waters while a third system is on display on ONR booth.

During the Navy League’s 2016 Sea-Air-Space Exposition, Navy Recognition learned from a General Dynamics NASSCO representative that the second ESB ship currently under construction will be fully able to accomodate the V-22 Osprey tilt-rotor aircraft. First ship of the class, USNS Lewis B. Puller (ESB 1) will be retrofitted in order to be V-22 compatible as well.

The recently christened ACTUV unmanned vessel will soon undergo a comprenhensive trials campaign. ACTUV is a 130-foot twin-screw trimaran, designed for enhanced stability in all kinds of weather. It has a number of unusual features because it does not need to accommodate people. For example, interior spaces are accessible for maintenance but aren’t designed to support a permanent crew.
