China's first domestically built carrier, known as the Type 001A, is undergoing preparations for its first sea trial, while discussions about its name show that Chinese people hold high expectations of the carrier's ability to resolve the Taiwan question.

The UK Ministry of Defence has appointed an alliance team led by BAE Systems to deliver its Type 45 Power Improvement Project (PIP). BAE Systems joined with shipbuilding and conversion specialist Cammell Laird and naval design and technical support expert BMT to win the contract, and today signed a charter on board HMS Diamond along with representatives from the Royal Navy and MoD to celebrate the alliance.

The heavy aircraft-carrying cruiser Admiral Kuznetsov of project 11435 will get a digital radio-technical complex to control aircraft flights. It will make its aircraft fly in any time of the day and in complicated conditions and not only in good visibility. The load on pilots will decrease as electronics will automatically guide the landing approach, the Izvestia daily writes.

On 25 March 2018, the French Navy (Marine Nationale) Leygues-class ASW Frigate Jean de Vienne secured their second drug seizure this year in support of Combined Task Force (CTF) 150. A total of 530 kilograms (kgs) of heroin was seized during an operation in the international waters of the Arabian Sea. Jean de Vienne’s seizure is the tenth for CTF150 since January this year; which together with Her Majesty’s Australian Ship Warramunga and Pakistani Naval Ship Aslat totals in excess of 22 tonnes of narcotics seized.

The French Navy (Marine Nationale) announced that the frigate Vendémiaire conducted a patrol in the South China Sea. The Floréal-class surveillance frigate is deployed for nearly two months in Asia with the aim of asserting the French presence in the Pacific region, reinforce the naval cooperation with the allied navies and provide France with a capacity of autonomous evaluation of the situation in the area.
