Russian frigate launches salvo of Kalibr cruise missiles on Ukraine


According to a tweet published by Massimo Franterelli on December 6, 2022, a Russian television video was released showing a Russian Admiral Grigorovich class frigate launching a salvo of Kalibr cruise missiles from the Black Sea against military installations in Ukraine.

The Admiral Grigorovich-class also referred to as Krivak V class, Russian designation Project 11356R, is a class of frigates built by the Yantar Shipyard in Kaliningrad for the Russian Navy and Indian Navy, with a cost of $450-500 million.

The ship's hull is half-tub, with an extended half-bow and fairly full contours at the surface of the forward end. The ship has a three-axis superstructure. The Hull and superstructure of the ship are made of steel.

To increase the ship's protection and survivability architectural protection methods were used taking into account the stealth technology, and also the measures to reduce acoustic signature and protection against weapons of mass destruction were taken.

The ships have a length of 124.8 m (409 ft 5 in), a beam of 15.2 m (49 ft 10 in), and a draught of 4.2 m (13 ft 9 in). They can carry a complement of 200 sailors.

A power plant provides the ship with a high cruising speed and a considerable range of autonomous navigation. Thanks to this they can reach a top speed of 30 knots (56 km/h; 35 mph).

The frigate's radio-electronic and hydroacoustic armament includes a Fregat-M2EM type radar for target detection, positioning, and tracking, as well as hydroacoustic stations (including a towed one) for timely detection of enemy submarines.

The core of the Admiral Grigorovich class frigates' strike missile armament consists of 3S14 universal launchers capable of using 3M-54TE, 3M-14TE, and Yakhont missiles.
