The Jang Bogo-III Batch-II submarines, set to be delivered to the South Korean Navy by December 2031, represent an evolution in submarine design. Compared to the already acclaimed Jang Bogo-III Batch-I, the new submarines feature increased length and armaments, including enhanced vertical launch systems.

They boast the world's first combination of an Air-Independent Propulsion (AIP) system and lithium-ion batteries, positioning them as some of the most advanced non-nuclear diesel submarines in existence, with unparalleled armament and submerged endurance capabilities.

Hanwha Ocean's focus on cost-saving innovative technologies has played a crucial role in securing this contract. The company leveraged its experience from the ongoing design and construction of the first and second vessels in the Batch-II series to develop groundbreaking production techniques, which enabled further cost reductions. The close collaboration with major equipment manufacturers also contributed significantly to this achievement.

The successful construction of the third vessel is expected not only to validate the performance of the Jang Bogo-III Batch-II submarines but also to establish a fully realized design. Additionally, the direct operation and performance validation by the South Korean Navy enhance the competitive edge of these submarines in international markets.

With this contract, Hanwha Ocean will have constructed a total of 17 out of the 24 submarines ordered by the South Korean Navy, including Jang Bogo-I, II, and III class submarines, further cementing its reputation as the leading submarine builder in South Korea.

Including exports, such as six submarines to Indonesia, Hanwha Ocean's portfolio will expand to 23 submarines, showcasing its overwhelming submarine construction capabilities globally.
